What To Splurge And Save On In Your Wardrobe
Knowing what to splurge and save on in your wardrobe is very important. Especially as we get older and move into our 30s, 40s, and so on. We want to make sure we are investing in the wardrobe essentials that will last us for years to come. So as your personal stylist, I am going to break down which items you should be investing in and where you can save your coins. To sum it up, you splurge (or invest) on classic timeless pieces that won’t go out of style, also known as your core wardrobe. You save on trendy pieces that will only last a few seasons.
Here’s my list of what to splurge and save on in your wardrobe:
What To Splurge And Save On In Your Wardrobe
Splurge
A nice everyday handbag: A black structured handbag in a classic silhouette will never go out of style.
Classic pumps: Since this is another timeless wardrobe essential go ahead and treat yourself.
Classic coat: A classic style of coat, such as the trench coat, will last you years and years so you might as well spend to ensure the quality is great.
Proper undergarments: Undergarments are the foundation of your outfit so you better believe it's worth the investment. Whether it's a bra or spanx go ahead and spend what is necessary to help you look fabulous in your clothes.
Leather jacket: A leather jacket is another wardrobe must have that you can spend your coins on. It's very versatile and can be worn over a dress, paired with jeans, or pants.
Sunglasses: I guarantee you that you will wear sunglasses every summer, all summer.
Jeans: We all know that no wardrobe is complete without a pair of denim. You need a classic pair of medium and/or dark wash jeans of good quality because if you're anything like me, your jeans will probably get a lot of wear.
Black blazer: This is a versatile piece that can be worn to work, happy hour, and on the weekend. It wan be dressed up or down.
Save
Jeans: This is no typo. Yes, jeans made the list twice. I don’t believe you should splurge on trendy items and jeans are included in that. Below are a pair of frayed hem flower embroidered jeans. They're trendy and you may be over them in a couple of seasons. Save your money!
Trendy items: This is where you should definitely save your money. Trends that you are not sure of that you want to try or items that you know are just a fad and will be over and done within a few months. Remember wedge sneakers? They were hot for a little bit but then they fizzled out. I bought a pair from Steve Madden for about $100, but I recall the original Isabel Marant version that would have set me back about $500-600.
T-shirts: For your tees you obviously want a material that isn't too thin (unless that is the intended look!) but there is no need to spend hundreds of dollars on a simple tee.
Statement necklace: I love a good statement necklace! They're fun and can definitely take your outfit up a few notches. I like collecting different statement pieces from stores like Nordstorm, Zara, and H&M. They have fab, budget friendly statement accessories.
Sunglasses - This also made the list twice. You want to experiment with bold bright colors? No problem! But since something like this won't get worn often go ahead and save a little cash.
Scarves - This is another item that can take your outfit to the next level. Personally, I like to use scarves to add a pop of color to my outfits. I find the best deals on scarves at Zara and H&M.
