I was going to title this post self care tips for busy moms, but all moms are busy.  Whether you’re a working mom, stay at home mom, or mompreneur...you are busy. This post/video is for all moms; new moms, OG moms, moms of toddlers, big kids...ALL moms.  If you’re hiding out in the bathroom for a little me time, then this is for you!  We all need to take care of ourselves.  I know it's rough to get out of the house right now, so I'm sharing 7 self care tips for moms that we can do at home.

I’m learning there is no secret to finding time for self care as a mom, you have to make time.  Since I know that’s easier said than done, I’m sharing 7 simple self care tips with you.  Or you can call it 7 ways to destress.

1. Schedule Me Time - As you probably already know, things go a lot smoother and you are more likely to stick to a plan when it is scheduled.  Work with your partner or support system to find a time that works best for you to have an hour or two to yourself.  For me, I love Sunday mornings.  So after I nurse my daughter, Mia, my fiance takes her downstairs to eat breakfast, then play.  I get to sleep in or do something for myself.

2. Uninterrupted Shower or Bath Time - Uninterrupted meaning you don’t have to hear your baby or child crying, coming to the door knocking and saying “mommyyyyy”.  I realized that it’s not an enjoyable shower if I can hear Mia crying or whining.  I then start to feel rushed like I need to go get her or see if she’s okay.  Have your partner take your baby on  a walk or do this while your little is napping or sleep for the night.  Step it up and set the mood for your bath or shower. Use bath bombs, light a candle, play music, use aromatherapy.

3. Take a Guilt Free Nap - Every one tells you to nap when your little one is napping.  Especially when your little one is the newborn - toddler stage.  What they don’t tell you is that you will often feel guilty for napping.  “I should be cleaning, I should be working out, I should be working on my business”, etc.  Sis, you can not pour from an empty cup.  Listen to your body, relax, and take the nap…and take it guilt free.  Whatever you have to do will be there when you wake up.

4. Do Something Every Day That You Enjoy - This doesn’t have to be something big and I think that’s why a lot of moms miss this.  It can be having a cup of tea to yourself, a smoothie, watching your favorite show, writing in your journal, reading a magazine or book.  Just do something that will put a smile on your face.

5. Pamper Yourself! - This was a huge miss for me.  All last year I was so worried about nail salons, hair salons, and spas being closed.  I totally forgot that I can create that experience at home.  I polished my nails a couple of weeks ago and it was a complete game changer.  I felt great!  There’s  also nothing like being a little extra with your skin care routine a day or two out of the week.  Put on a mask, buy a face steamer, exfoliate, relax!

6. Buy Something New - I like to call this self care tip “Treat Yourself”.  Buy a bag, shoes, skincare products, baking utensils, whatever it is that will bring you joy.  I bought undies, bras, loungewear, and pjs from Victoria’s Secret.  Baby, let me tell you!  I took a long, hot uninterrupted shower, did the most with my skin care routine, then slipped on my new undies and bra, and topped it off with my new loungewear. A WHOLE NEW WOMAN walked out of the bathroom that day!

7. Take a Walk - This last tip is at home-ish.  You don’t have to drive anywhere and you don’t have to be around a lot of people.  Take a walk in your neighborhood and get some fresh air.  In full transparency, I have yet to try this one by myself but it is on my list.  I usually go on walks with Mia but I know a walk alone will do me some good.

Remember to recharge and take care of yourself.  Again, you can not pour from an empty cup!  What are some things you do for self care?
