2021 Word of the Year: BALANCE
Happy New Year, beautiful people! For the last couple of years, I have been choosing a word of the year. This word serves as a guide to my actions for the year and usually aligns with my personal and business goals. Last year, I chose the word execution. My goal was to launch my online boutique, Shop Arteresa Lynn. I definitely launched and executed that goal, while having a newborn! The following month we were hit with a pandemic, so I didn’t fully get to execute all of my plans for that business or my other goals. However, 2020 was rough for all of us.
My 2021 word of the year is BALANCE. I started last year off with a 7 week old. As a new mom, my goal was to be the best mom I could be. Lots of research, asking family and friends, googling, talking to my daughter’s pediatrician just to figure it all out. Not to mention doing all this while being sleep deprived. If you’ve been following, you know sleep didn’t happen for me until Mia was almost 11 months. Saying all this to say, I gave my Mia my ALL. Anything I did have left went to my mom (who had a really rough year) and to Max. When I say there wasn’t even a drop left for me. They say you can’t pour from an empty cup, but I somehow managed to keep pouring.
This year I am going to be HEAVY on the self-care. From someone who used to consider herself the self-care queen, I’m a little ashamed at how far I got away from that. I plan on being extremely intentional with taking care of Arteresa. Some of these things I will document in a series called Moments for Me. Of course, self-care also includes intangible things that can’t be documented.
I’ll be balancing my self-care with being Mia’s mommy, Max’s partner, a mompreneur, and getting back to the relationships of those who are important to me. Basically, I’ll be getting back to being That Chick.
