The Top 5 Teething Remedies
1. Freeze a fruit feeder - This is my favorite tip because not only is it an effective remedy for teething, it also serves as a treat for your baby. Simply pour puree fruit, vegetable, or milk in the fruit feeder, put it in the freezer until it is completely frozen, then serve to your baby. While your little one bites on the fruit feeder, the coolness provides relief for baby’s sore gums. This is an especially nice treat/remedy on a hot day.
2. Use cold and frozen items or teething toys - Staying in the category of cold items, my daughter Mia loved this freezable pacifier. You fill the nipple with water and freeze it. It’s small and easy for your baby to hold and bite on. MOM TIP: Once the nipple was no longer frozen, Mia didn’t want it! I kept a few of these frozen so I could keep them coming!
Another teething tip I received was to wet a small baby wash cloth and put it in the fridge until it’s cool. Mia loved holding and biting on the towel as well.
The next frozen item is the standard teething ring. This wasn’t a favorite of Mia. She didn’t like holding it when it was frozen and she still wasn’t a fan even if it was just cold. But give it a try, maybe your baby will like it!
3. The banana toothbrush - Almost every mom I asked had the banana toothbrush on their teething tip list. That’s how you know it’s a good tip! My daughter would chew on this for long periods of time. It gently massages the baby’s gums to bring teething relief.
4. Mommy’s Bliss Organic Little Gums Soothing Massage Gel - I know there are ingredients in some teething gels that are not recommended for babies. This day and night combo teething gel by Mommy’s Bliss includes no benzocaine, no numbing or cooling, no parabens, no belladonna, no alcohol, and are free of top 8 allergens. You’re able to apply the teething gels to your baby’s gums up to 9 times in a 24 hour period. I would apply the day gel in the morning and as needed throughout the day, and the night gel before bed. Be sure to check with your pediatrician and do your own research if you are hesitant about using teething gels.
5. Baby Tylenol - As a last resort, I was told by our pediatrician that I could give Mia baby Tylenol. If you find that your baby is still fussy, crying, and in pain after trying the other teething tips, give her/him Tylenol. Be sure to check with your baby’s pediatrician for the proper dosage.
