How To Pack Natural Hair Products For Your Vacation
Last month I went to Cabo, Mexico with my mom for her birthday. I really dread checking in my luggage and absolutely avoid it if I can so my goal was to make my luggage work as a carry on. I knew my clothes would not be a problem since my Cabo wardrobe consisted of swimsuits, cover ups, summer dresses, and sandals. I was more concerned with how I would get away with ALL of my hair products in my carry on. You all know that TSA plays no games with the 4 oz rule. Below are my tips for how to pack natural hair products for your vacation.
How To Pack Natural Hair Products For Your Vacation
The Prep - One of the most important keys to packing light hair products for your vacation is in how you prep your hair before you leave for vacation. I washed, deep conditioned, and styled my hair in a wash and go. I made sure to deep condition and use an ample amount of product because I wanted my hair to have a great amount of moisture.
Products used during prep:
Shampoo - Cantu Cleansing Cream Shampoo, Deep Conditioner - Cantu Deep Treatment Masque , Leave-In - Cantu Leave-In Conditioning Cream, Styler - Cantu Coconut Curling Cream, Oil - Pantene Intense Hydrating Oil
The Products - For your hair products you want to make sure to buy travel size products so that you are able to take everything you need in your carry on luggage. If your favorite products do not come in travel size simply put them in travel size containers. Below are a list of items that I travel with.
- Travel size products
- Spray bottle (to refresh curls)
- Brush
- Hair tie and hair pins
- Oil
- Something to lay your edges (gel or edge control)
- Hair decor, scarf, and/or headband
- Satin scarf or satin pillow case
* Helpful Tip: If you feel you need to wash your hair more than once I would bring a conditioner to serve as your co-wash and as your leave in. Bring products that have multi-purposes.
The Plane Ride - As you can see in the picture below, I play no games when it comes to preserving my curls while traveling. I almost always go to sleep during my flights so to keep my curls in place I pineapple my hair. A pineapple is simply putting all your hair in a loose ponytail at the very top of your head. Before existing the plane I let my hair loose, gave it a little shake, and was good to go.
Refreshing Your Curls: I was in the sun a lot during my trip so my curls did dry out. I refreshed my curls by using my spray bottle to damp my hair with water and applied the Cantu Curl Activator Cream. The below pic is my day 4 refreshed curls.
